About Live From the Fallout Shelter

For the past eighteen years Live From the Fallout Shelter has been bringing you the best in underground rock. The show was born in early 1985 out of a collaboration of two WJUL DJs, Chris Porter and Bob Weston. Weston just wanted to do engineering, but didn't want to be on the air or talk to bands, so Weston handled the audio engineering and mixing and Porter handled the spinning, booking, and interviewing the bands. Weston said , "We were just trying to copy Metrowave on WERS."

The first Live From the Fallout Shelter was broadcast on April 1, 1985 with Beginners Only playing live (a band Weston would later join.) Since that modest start, close to 500 bands have played on Live From the Fallout Shelter and the show is still going strong.

Since the departure of Bob Weston in 1988 and the departure of Chris Porter in 1993, an extraordinarily dedicated crew of engineers and host have carried on Live From the Fallout Shelter while retaining the original spirit and intent.

Be sure to tune in every Monday night from 8 pm until 11 pm to hear some great music and be a part of one the best shows in the history of college radio.
